The PT wants to go beyond President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s political strength in next year’s election to win a large number of city halls.
Coordinator of the Electoral Working Group (GTE) of the party, Senator Humberto Costa (PE) says that the idea is to resurrect a brand already used successfully in the past, the “PT way of governing”. It is a slogan that brings together several social programs and is marketed as a kind of “seal of quality” for the party.
“The PT cannot be solely tied to Lula’s prestige next year. We will certainly use that, but the party must go a little further”, stated Costa.
In 2020, admits the senator, the PT reached “rock bottom”, with a brutal reduction in the number of city halls. For the first time, he did not conquer any capital, for example.
“In 2024, the party may, in addition to competing in several cities competitively, present new leaders who, even if they are not winners, may be candidates for the Assemblies and Congress in 2026”, declares Costa.
