PT deputy recreates front against Sabesp’s privatization – 03/22/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

State deputy Emidio de Souza (PT) gathered the necessary number of signatures to relaunch the Parliamentary Front Against the Privatization of Sabesp in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp).
In all, 24 deputies from six different parties joined the collegiate, which promises to make a tough opposition to the project of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).
To the detriment of the inauguration of those elected in 2022, held last week, the committees and parliamentary fronts created in the previous legislature need to be redone.
As the column showed, PT deputies promise a staunch opposition to the project of the governor of São Paulo that seeks to hand over the company to the private sector by the end of 2024.
Sabesp is currently controlled by the Government of São Paulo, but 49.7% of its shares are traded on the stock exchange, both in São Paulo and in New York. It serves 375 municipalities and, in 2021, earned R$ 2.3 billion.
In the words of PT leaders in the House, Tarcísio’s thirst for privatization “scares” and makes “you even miss” the period in which the PSDB governed the state.
