PT and PSE members await Lula’s action on Tabata – 01/28/2024 – Panel

Around Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and at the top of the PSB, a direct attack by the president to try to convince federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) to give up her pre-candidacy for the Mayor of São Paulo to supporting Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) is taken for granted.

One of the possibilities discussed among the president’s allies would be an invitation for Tabata to assume a ministry, which could be Science and Technology.

The department is led by Luciana Santos, who is from PC do B, one of the parties in the PT coalition, which could make the exchange less traumatic. Furthermore, this is an area of ​​interest and parliamentary activity for Tabata.

Lula adopted the strategy in 2022, when he asked Boulos to abandon his pre-candidacy for the government of São Paulo to support Fernando Haddad (PT), who reached the second round with the support of the psolist, but lost to Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans -SP).

In the capital, Tabata’s departure could, in theory, facilitate Lula’s attempt to transform the municipal dispute into a duel between him and Jair Bolsonaro (PL), whose support is sought by the current mayor, Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

In the deputy’s political group and also in the PSB, the assessment is that the pre-candidacy will be carried out, even with possible external pressure.

On Thursday (25), Tabata launched his pre-candidacy in São Paulo, with the presence of minister Márcio França (Entrepreneurship), presenter José Luiz Datena, his campaign team and pre-candidates for councilor by PSB.

Vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, member of the PSB, participated virtually in the event.

In December, during a ministerial meeting, Lula called for greater efforts to reach an agreement between candidates from government parties in the 2024 municipal election. Addressing Alckmin, he specifically cited the case of São Paulo, where, until now, they will occupy different platforms .
