PSOL protests against “misogyny” and “political persecution” at the Ethics Council – 07/24/2023 – Panel

Six PSOL and PT deputies complain of misogyny and political persecution in the processing of a representation of which they are the target of the Council of Ethics of the Chamber, authored by the PL, due to their manifestations during the vote on the time frame for the demarcation of indigenous lands.
In response, they are planning a tour of protests that began on Saturday (22) in Porto Alegre, the electoral birthplace of Fernanda Melchionna (PSOL), and will be repeated on August 4 in Belo Horizonte, in solidarity with Célia Xakriabá (PSOL).
The other parliamentarians are Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL), Talíria Petrone (PSOL), Erika Kokay (PT) and Juliana Cardoso (PT).
The PL represented against the deputies for having called their colleagues “murderers of our indigenous people” on the tribune of the Federal Chamber. The documents signed by Valdemar Costa Neto, president of the PL, also contain publications by the deputies on social networks.
“The process is absurd and was forwarded in less than four hours [em 1º de junho] by the Board of Directors to the Ethics Council even though there is an obvious legal error, as there are no collective representations on the council”, says Melchionna.
The next day, the suit was withdrawn and, 10 days later, replaced by another six individual representations. In addition to political persecution by the Board of Directors, the deputy also points to the misogyny of the PL, given that manifestations by male parliamentarians were ignored.
The deputy compares the process of representing four parties against Nikolas Ferreria (PL) – who, on Women’s Day, put a blonde wig on his head and mocked transgender women. Filed by the party on March 15th with the Board of Directors, it was only forwarded to the Ethics Council on May 23rd.
Of the six representations in progress, four already have a deputy rapporteur.
