Prosecutor’s office asks for the impeachment of Renan Filho and governor – 03/29/2023 – Power

The Electoral Public Prosecutor’s Office in Alagoas asked this Wednesday (29) for the impeachment of the senator diploma of Renan Filho (MDB), currently holder of the Ministry of Transport in the Lula government.

According to the document sent to the TRE-AL (Regional Electoral Court of Alagoas), Renan benefited from the misuse of the public machine in the 2022 elections through the state government program Pacto Contra a Fome, for the distribution of basic food baskets.

The Attorney General’s Office claims that the practice constitutes abuse of political and economic power and asks, in addition to the impeachment of the senator’s diploma, ineligibility and the imposition of a fine. The investigation was initiated from a representation presented by the coalition of Fernando Collor (PTB), defeated candidate for the government.

The Attorney’s Office also defended the revocation of the diploma of Governor Paulo Dantas (MDB) and Vice President Ronaldo Lessa (PDT), in addition to ineligibility and the imposition of a fine. Both would have benefited electorally from the program.

The three politicians were contacted by Sheet through their advisors, but they did not respond until the publication of the report.

The Minister of Transport was governor for two terms and left the local Executive last year to run for the Senate. Dantas took office and was re-elected.

“[Renan] was a direct beneficiary of the conduct, having agreed with them, actively participating in the dissemination of the assistance program for basic food baskets in an election year and using it as a campaign platform”, states an excerpt from the request.

The Pacto Contra a Fome program, according to the case file, was created last June with the aim of distributing basic food baskets to people in socially vulnerable situations, with a forecast of delivering 110,000 units per month.

The document sent to the TRE stressed that the creation and budget execution of the assistance program by the state government “occurred in the middle of the election year, more precisely in the three months preceding the event, allegedly with the aim of carrying out joint actions to combat food insecurity in people living in extreme poverty”.

“Factors such as the date on which it was launched (less than two months before the beginning of the electoral campaign), the repeated mention of the program in interviews, reports, electoral programs and social networks and the size of the resources involved without plausible justification, give the Pact against Hunger an eminently electoral purpose”, said regional electoral attorney Antonio Henrique de Amorim Cadete, who works on the case.

According to him, there is no denying the impact on the ballot boxes generated “by the announcement of a program for the free distribution of goods, of the magnitude presented by the so-called Pact against Hunger, which involved almost R$ 200 million.”
