Prosecutor wants deputy Jerry to be investigated for alleged harassment against PL parliamentarian – 04/14/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

A prosecutor from the Electoral Public Ministry sent a representation to the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, asking that federal deputy Márcio Jerry (PC do B) be investigated for a possible crime of gender-based political violence committed against deputy Júlia Zanatta (PL- SC).

The case gained repercussions on Wednesday (12), after videos and images of the episode circulated on the networks. Jerry denies the accusations and says he is a victim of fake news. The episode took place on Tuesday (11) during a session with the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, at the House Security and Justice Commission.

The document was sent by attorney Raquel Branquinho Nascimento, coordinator of the Gender Political Violence working group.

She claims that the episode falls under “the criminal hypothesis of Article 326-B of the Electoral Code” and demands hearings with the victim, witnesses, in addition to analysis of the recordings of the incident. The prosecutor asks the PGR to adopt the “appropriate measures”.

The article cited by her provides for imprisonment of one to four years, in addition to a fine, for “harassing, embarrassing, humiliating, persecuting or threatening, by any means, a candidate for elective office or holder of an elective mandate”.

“In this case, in the case of the possible aggressor of a federal parliamentarian, the forum for investigating the facts and possible criminal prosecution is the Federal Supreme Court, considering that the requirements of the contemporaneity of the exercise of public office and conduct related to the parliamentary mandate itself are fulfilled” , follows the letter sent to the PGR.

The parliamentarian said, in audio sent to the column, that she felt “extremely disrespected”. The Liberal Party is expected to file a representation on the House Ethics Board against Jerry.

“This colleague [Jerry] came up behind me and said: ‘Respect 40 years of mandate’. I ask for respect for my first term as a woman, in this House, and I do not allow anyone to touch me or speak in my ear trying to intimidate me, intimidate my positions”, said the deputy.

Jerry, on the other hand, said that he is a victim of fake news and is being threatened because of the situation.

“I appealed to her there in the midst of a turmoil to respect the deputy @lidicedamata [Lídice da Mata (PSB-BA)]’which has 40 years of history in this house'”, he wrote in the caption. According to the parliamentarian, the two were in a heated discussion at the time.

Federal deputy Jandira Feghali, leader of the PC do B in the Chamber, came out in defense of her colleague. “She [Zanatta] she is an unbalanced person, who creates problems based on untruths, it is her history”, said Feghali to the column.

The PL parliamentarian received support from other deputies from the acronym, such as Mário Frias (SP) and Eduardo Bolsonaro (SP). “Imagine if it were the other way around, a right-wing man arriving behind a left-wing deputy. Actions will be taken”, said the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on social networks.
