Prosecutor identifies transfers of R$ 2 million to Carlos Bolsonaro’s chief of staff – 05/04/2023 – Power

A report by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro identified transfers of BRL 2 million to the chief of staff of councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicans) made by employees of the office of the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro in the City Council.

The transfers were made over a period of ten years (2009 to 2018) and reinforce the evidence of the practice of “splitting” in Carlos’ office in a similar model to that pointed out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the former office of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in the Legislative Assembly .

The investigation, which has not yet been concluded, seeks to analyze whether that money was somehow passed on to Carlos, whether in cash or through payment of personal bills. Initial information indicates that Jorge Fernandes, current chief of staff, paid some of the councilor’s bills.

The transfers, revealed this Thursday (4th) by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by Sheetwere identified from the breach of bank secrecy of 25 servants or former servants of Carlos in the Chamber, and five companies.

When contacted, Carlos Bolsonaro’s defense did not comment on the case until this report was published.

The transfers identified in Jorge’s accounts were made by six of Carlos’ servants, including his wife, Regina Célia Sobral Fernandes.

The report was produced by the Laboratory of Technology to Combat Corruption and Money Laundering of the Rio Public Ministry. This was the unit that tracked the accounts of Flávio Bolsonaro and Fabrício Queiroz, appointed as the financial operator of the scheme attributed to the senator, whose complaint was filed after the evidence was cancelled.

The investigation against Carlos was opened after news about employees crowded in Carlos’ office who apparently did not provide services to the councilor. A Sheet revealed two such cases in 2019.

In April, the report discovered that Carlos employed an elderly woman who lives in Magé, a municipality 50 km from downtown Rio, until January. Nadir Barbosa Goes, 70, denied the Sheet who has worked for the councilor. She received, as a cabinet officer, a salary of R$ 4,271 per month.

Another employee suspected of being a ghost revealed by Sheet is Cileide Barbosa Mendes, 43, a sort of handyman for the Bolsonaro family.

The Public Ministry also points out suspicions in the use of cash by the councilor. He mentions the use of R$ 150 thousand in cash in the acquisition of a property, and for the payment of a debt of R$ 15.5 thousand with a stockbroker.
