Project that exempts the use of revolving doors in banks reaches the Executive

The bill that removes the obligation of the revolving door in Capital banks arrived this Friday (24) to the Executive. According to information from the city hall, the head of the municipal executive, Sebastião Melo (MDB), will have until March 20 to evaluate the matter and decide on its veto or sanction.

The bill was authored by councilor Ramiro Rosário (PSDB) and was approved by the Porto Alegre Chamber in December last year. The matter amends Law 7,494, of September 15, 1994, which requires the installation of revolving doors in bank branches. Thus, revolving doors or a lock system would become mandatory only in branches or banking service stations where there is a safe, custody or movement of money. The obligation does not apply to service stations (PA) and electronic service stations (PAE) and in cases where the establishment has a security plan approved by the Federal Police.

Rosário says that today there are new models of business agencies – similar to offices, only with client relationships and financial guidance. “In these places, there are no vaults, withdrawals or deposits or large movement of money and therefore will not attract criminals”, he points out.

According to the councilor, agencies exempted from the use of revolving doors must maintain an uninterrupted monitoring system on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week, as well as an alarm.

The Bank Workers’ Union has criticized the proposal, believing that the withdrawal of the requirement for revolving doors could bring risks to workers and will result in the occurrence of robberies in branches in the Capital. “The installation of the revolving door, together with the installation of the video monitoring system and the presence of security guards, ended up reducing bank robberies. We cannot go back in terms of security because the gangs are extremely organized”, points out the former union president, Everton Gimenis.
