Manaus (AM) – Next week, registration for the National High School Examination (Enem) will begin, however, the preparation of many candidates began months ago. During this marathon of studies, one of the terms that became part of the everyday life of college entrance exam students is the Item Response Theory (IRT), which is nothing more than the methodology that calculates the test grade.
“TRI not only calculates the candidate’s correct answers, but the correct answers in a pedagogical way. That’s why candidates can have a difference of up to 200 points, but be on the same level of correct answers. This happens because they may have hit items with different difficulty levels”,
explains Brazilian professor Frederico Torres, better known as Professor Fredão.
He explains that the TRI methodology takes into account three important aspects: the degree of difficulty of each question, whether the candidate has the required proficiency in the subject, and the random answer, the famous guess.
The candidates with the best performance on the Enem are those who scored more correct answers on the easy and medium questions than on the difficult ones, as TRI understands that he presented a consistent behavior, that is, he did not “guess”.
However, this does not mean that the candidate should not guess on the test, on the contrary, mainly because the blank question is worth much less than a casual answer.
“That’s why it’s important for the candidate to be aware, especially if he dreams of passing competitive courses like Medicine, for example”,
highlighted Professor Fredão, who was in Manaus for the first time last week, lecturing exclusively to the students of the Vector course.
Graduated in Mathematics and Statistics, he is responsible for the Mente Mathematical channel, and has helped young people to achieve approval through a proprietary methodology that focuses on the skills and competencies required in the Enem.

Among the young people who are focused on approval is Pedro Lima, 17 years old. A student in the third year of high school, he divides his time between classes at school and the prep course while preparing for the Enem.
“In the morning I’m at school, in the afternoon at Vector, and when I get home I still study for another two hours. It has been challenging to manage the time, but with focus and determination I think I will be able to do a good race”,
comments the young man, who dreams of becoming a surgeon.
To help them in this mission, the specialist in the neuroscience of learning and approval, Fernanda Leal, was also in Manaus last week. She says that at this moment it is essential that candidates adopt strategies that help them to ensure more correct questions, in addition to feeling more willing and confident for the day of the test.
“I tend to compare the student’s preparation with that of a high-performance athlete, who, on the eve of a championship or an Olympics, continues training, but the training changes, because in this case, sleeping and eating well, taking care of the emotional, takes on even greater importance.”
highlighted the creator of the Leal Method, a scientifically proven study methodology that teaches young people to study strategically for the entrance exams. In Manaus, the technique is offered exclusively at the Vector course.
In addition to solving previous tests, it is essential to bet on in-depth correction, which is to focus on the questions with greater difficulty.
“There is a tendency to increase errors due to lack of attention, so breathing techniques help to relax and provide more concentration, especially when it comes to resolving questions that the candidate is aware of, but made a mistake, so this is the moment for him to study more them and, thus, be able to increase the number of hits”,
explains.
