The Municipal Secretary of Education of Rio de Janeiro informed, this Wednesday (30), that directors of four municipal schools were removed after the opening of an inquiry to investigate a presentation with sexual connotations at the CIEP Luiz Carlos Prestes school. The group received R$50,000 to carry out a series of presentations and workshops in schools.
Last weekend, a video of a presentation by the group Cia Suave gained repercussions on the internet. Children from a municipal school in Rio de Janeiro watched a performance with songs and choreographies with sexual connotations.
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, took a stand yesterday via social media. In the video, Paes says that he reacted “like any sane person who saw this recording, with a lot of indignation and repudiation”. He informed that the city hall will monitor more closely the presentations, activities or lectures in municipal schools.
In addition to the directors of the CIEP Luiz Carlos Prestes, the Municipal Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro also decided to remove the directors of the CIEP Gustavo Capanema schools, the Marechal Estevão Leite de Carvalho Municipal School and the Rivadavia Correia Municipal School. In a note, the organization informed that it is investigating the fact that the presentation received free classification.
Cia Suave was banned from performing in schools in Rio de Janeiro. Paes also stated that if the dance company has received any public funds from the city hall, the money will need to be returned.
