Priest convicted of calling doctor murderer who performed abortion

The Pernambuco Court of Justice (TJPE) condemned Father Luiz Carlos Lodi da Cruz, from the Diocese of Anápolis, in the interior of Goiás, to pay compensation of R$10,000 to a doctor he called a murderer. The professional was responsible for causing the abortion of a 22-week-old baby, in a 10-year-old girl, a victim of rape in São Mateus, Espírito Santo.

In the CFM resolutions, according to international standards, abortion is understood as the interruption of pregnancy up to the 20th gestational week, which may be extended to the 22nd week, provided that the fetus is not viable outside the uterus. Termination of pregnancy after that, when the baby is able to survive outside the mother’s womb, cannot technically be called an abortion.

Abortion was authorized by Justice being carried out in a hospital in Recife (PE), in 2020. At the time, the priest criticized the authorization of the procedure by Justice. On social media, he wrote: “She was 22 weeks and four days old (almost six months) and was in the girl’s womb when she was cruelly murdered. […]. The murder began at 5 pm on Sunday (08/16/2020) and did not end until 10 am on Monday. Without name, without civil registration, without Baptism, the little daughter of [inicial da criança] it was treated as medical waste, discarded biological material. The author of this second crime, the doctor [nome do médico]is free”.

The priest also cited another case of the same doctor. “This is not the first time that Dr. kills little children. The most famous case was the abortion of two twin girls, performed by him in the same hospital in 2009, inside the uterus of a nine-year-old girl from Alagoinha (PE). Both in 2009 and today, the abortion agent appeared before the press as the great benefactor of the pregnant girl. However, he was the author of a crime and as such should be investigated”.

Due to the publications, the doctor filed a complaint against the priest and asked for compensation of R$ 40,000. The court then fixed the compensation at R$ 10,000 because it understood that there was moral embarrassment.

The priest who works at the Associação Pró-vida in Anápolis has already been convicted of trying to prevent the death of a child in the mother’s womb in 2008. The compensation of almost R$400,000 was imposed by the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ).

The Diocese of Anápolis and Father Luiz Carlos Lodi da Cruz, so far, have not returned to the report.
