PRF exonerates inspector who had a mandate until November – 06/04/2023 – Power

The PRF (Federal Highway Police) ignored the rules of the federal government and dismissed the general inspector of the corporation, Wendel Benevides Matos, from office this Wednesday (5). According to the rules, the position has a two-year term and would end in November 2023.

The attempt to remove the corregidor from office has been taking place since January of this year by the new PRF summit, commanded by director general Antônio Fernando Oliveira. The corporation is under the umbrella of the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino (PSB).

The waiver was published in the Official Gazette of the Union and signed by the Minister of Civil Affairs, Rui Costa (PT).

This is the corporation’s second attempt to remove the corregidor from office. The first dismissal took place on 2 January. However, an ordinance published ten days later made the previous norm ineffective.

The term of office for magistrates of the Executive Power is contained in a decree. “The holders of sectoral correction units will be appointed or designated for a two-year term, unless otherwise provided in the legislation”, says the text.

According to people interviewed by Sheetas much as Matos returned to the post, the PRF continued to articulate so that he would not remain.

This time, there was an opinion from the CGU (Controladoria-Geral da União) so that the action could take place.

The intention of the new management is to put trusted people in the new board in charge. From the management of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, only Matos remained in office.

The PRF said, in a note, that the dismissal of the general inspector is a measure to remove suggestions about partiality in the conduct of processes involving the former director general of the Federal Highway Police Silvinei Vasques and about the performance of police officers in the second round of elections. .

Some attitudes of the Corregedoria would also have caused discomfort to members of the new management, such as the fact that lawsuits against Silvinei were opened only this year, and also for filing one of the lawsuits on the investigation of the second round election.

The PRF is under suspicion of political action in favor of then-president Jair Bolsonaro for carrying out a blitz on public transport for voters, mainly in the Northeast, a region where now-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) had a wide margin of votes in the polls.

However, the corporation, when asked if the inspector had done something that motivated his departure from office, said that there was nothing.

The corregidor was contacted, but declined to comment.

People close to the corregidor said that he received the information with surprise and still could not access the process that dismissed him from office. He even attended a meeting at the CGU on Tuesday (4) and dealt with the Union’s General Inspector General about Silvinei’s processes.

Matos has a degree and a master’s degree in law. He is also an expert on traffic accidents. He has served as general coordinator of the National Human Rights Ombudsman.

Among other functions, he served as head of the Internal Affairs Division of the Federal Highway Police, head of the Ethics and Discipline sector at the PRF in Rondônia and regional inspector at the PRF in Acre.

The CGU was approached, but has not yet issued a statement.
