President Ednaldo Rodrigues stated that the CBF will expand the requirement for the formation of women’s teams. The leader spoke about the topic during the draw for the first phase of the men’s Copa do Brasil.
He explained that teams from Series B, C and D will have until 2027 for female team structures. Clubs competing in Serie A are already required to have a women’s team.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL MOVES FORWARD, BUT FACING OLD PROBLEMS
Last year, women’s soccer broke attendance records. The final of the Brazilian Championship, between Corinthians and Internacional, brought 41,000 fans to the Neo Química Arena.
In addition, the CBF has been increasing the value of the awards. The Super Cup, for example, will feature a cash prize for the first time. The Brazilian award increased fivefold from 2021 to 2022.
On the other hand, the clubs’ investment in women’s football is guided by the obligation. Ceará, for example, discontinued the women’s team after being relegated to Série B. Against Flamengo, the alvinegro team selected girls from the base and was thrashed by 10 to 0.
