President of the 8/1 CPI says he will evaluate ‘appropriate measures’ against Mauro Cid

Bolsonaro’s former assistant Mauro Cid has been in prison since May 3.
The president of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the 8th of January, Arthur Maia (União-BA), stated that he evaluates “appropriate measures” against the deponent this Tuesday (11), Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Cid is heard as investigated by the commission.
On June 26, Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined that the colonel is obliged to give testimony to the CPMI. However, he can be accompanied by lawyers and has the right to remain silent so as not to answer incriminating questions. In this Tuesday’s session, he adopted the strategy of silence.
“I called Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid’s employer to tell him that he was making his client disobey an order from the Federal Supreme Court”
said Maia at the CPMI.
The deponent did not respond to the questions raised by the parliamentarians. In one of the questions, congresswoman Jandira Feghali (PCdoB-RJ) wanted to know Cid’s age; he informed that he would remain silent.
“We will present a complaint against Mr. Cid to the Federal Supreme Court, given that the Minister of the Supreme Court determined that, in what did not incriminate him, he had an obligation to respond, since he is not here only as a deponent, but as a witness. It is the procedure he is adopting and, obviously, it is up to the CPI to adopt the appropriate measures”
added the president of the CPI.
The former aide-de-camp informed, as soon as he arrived at the commission, that he would remain silent during the hearing.
“Without any intention of disrespecting your excellencies and the work carried out by this CPMI, considering my unequivocal status as an investigated person, by guidance of my defense and based on the habeas corpus order granted in my favor by the Federal Supreme Court, I will use my constitutional right to silence. Thank you all for the attention. Thanks”
declared the soldier.
Prison
Cid has been in prison since May 3, when Operation Venire was launched, which investigates an alleged scheme of fraud in vaccination cards that the military would have in front of, and that would involve Bolsonaro, the daughter of the former president and people close to him.
The PF is investigating whether Cid committed the crimes of violating a preventive health measure, criminal association, inserting false data into information systems, electronic embezzlement and corruption of minors.
