Prerogatives defends Ricardo Lewandowski to succeed Dino at MJ

Lawyer Marco Aurélio Carvalho, coordinator of the Prerogatives group, defended support for the possible appointment of the former minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Ricardo Lewandowski, as successor to Flávio Dino in the Ministry of Justice. While PT deputies have been promoting the campaign for Carvalho to be chosen, he stated that he considers that he can “collaborate much more in civil society” where he currently is than in the government.

“We have a very important option that we have to consider, which is Minister Ricardo Lewandowski. It is a consensus name. If eventually the president so wishes and he is interested, he is certainly more than prepared to face the ills of the security system and our justice system”, highlighted Carvalho in an interview with the newspaper The state of Sao Paulo published on Thursday night (7).

The Prerogativas group is known for criticizing Operation Lava Jato and acting against second-instance arrest. Support for Lewandowski for the MJ contradicts PT leaders.

The possibility of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appointing Lewandowski to the position gained strength after he accompanied him on a trip to the Middle East last week.

There is also the possibility that someone else close to the PT will also be nominated, such as the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias. Despite this, he stated that he never discussed this with President Lula. Messias was present at a group event on Thursday (7), in São Paulo.

Other members of Prerogativas are also considered for the position, such as Ricardo Cappelli, Augusto de Arruda Botelho, and Wadih Damous.

The Prerogatives group event was attended by Lula and the first lady, Janja da Silva, who ended up not going due to the Mercosur Summit, in Rio de Janeiro, and the long trip to the Middle East and Germany, since last week.

The presidential couple, however, was present at the event with two cardboard panels for people to take photos as if they were really with them.
