PR says that civic-military schools advanced in Ideb – 07/13/2023 – Panel

To justify the continuity of the state program of civic-military schools, the government of Paraná has carried out its own survey on the performance in the Ideb (Basic Education Development Index) of teaching units that adopted the hybrid model.

The state program was put into practice in January 2021, in the first term of Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD), who is an ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

According to data from Seed (Secretary of State for Education), the 206 civic-military schools had a greater advance in Ideb grades, between 2019 and 2021, in comparison with the performance of regular and integral schools in the same period.

In the state public network, of the 1,647 regular schools, 49.8% registered progress in Ideb in at least one of the three teaching stages evaluated by Ideb, which are the initial years of Elementary School, the final years of Elementary School and High School . Of the 251 schools that offer full-time education, the number rises to 62.9%. In the 206 civic-military schools, the advance reaches 84%.

For Seed, the performance of civic-military schools draws attention because the state program was implemented primarily in teaching units that, in 2019, were in a context of social vulnerability.

In addition to the specific uniforms of the state program given to students and the presence at the school of monitors linked to the “Corpo de Militares Estadois Inativos Voluntários”, another differential of the civic-military school is the curricular workload. There are extra classes in Portuguese and Mathematics, as well as classes in Civility and Citizenship.

According to the government of Paraná, even with the extinction of the National Program of Civic-Military Schools, communicated on Monday (10) by the federal government, the state program should continue in 194 schools and can still be extended to the 12 schools in the state that followed the federal model (206 units in total).

According to Seed, the idea is to expand the hybrid model, which could reach around 400 units from 2024.

Another politician in tune with Bolsonarist banners, the governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello (PL), lamented the extinction of the national program. “I activated our Department of Education to evaluate the maintenance of the program in SC”, he wrote on a social network.
