The only port privatized by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the terminal in Vitória (ES) multiplied the amount charged per vessel operating there by 18 – from R$ 1,100 to R$ 18,700.
The case should be used as an argument by the Lula government (PT) against the privatization of ports like Santos (SP).
Federal management and the government of São Paulo have been antagonizing over the issue. Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP), former Minister of Infrastructure, has turned the privatization of the port of Santos into his own flag in recent years, and argues that it would increase the number of jobs in Baixada Santista.
Current Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França admits the concession of port areas, but not the sale of the authority itself. He has highlighted the strategic importance of the area.
