Police find drug dealer bunker on NGO land in Rio

The Civil Police discovered, this Friday (19), a drug trafficking bunker in the Parada de Lucas slum, in the North Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, built on the land of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Investigators point out that the NGO would be a front. At the scene, ten drug dealers who were inside the bunker were arrested. The police also seized rifles, pistols and grenades.

According to the Civil Police, in total, the “agents arrested 17 people, seized 17 rifles and a 50 caliber weapon, a large amount of ammunition, grenades and drugs”. During the press conference held after the operation, delegate Marcos Amim, head of the Narcotics Repression Police Station (DRE), detailed how the hiding place was located by the police. The operation was carried out to prevent the invasion of traffickers from the Third Command Pure.

“It is very important to highlight two points: first, for those who had doubts that some Non-Governmental Organizations are directly linked to drug trafficking, today’s operation has just beaten any doubts. The NGO carried out some activities typical of Non-Governmental Organizations precisely to camouflage its true bias, which was to hide weapons from drug trafficking and hide wanted from Justice,” said Amin in a video released on Instagram with an excerpt from the press conference.

“The bunker is very peculiar to that community, it was a place whose access was very ingenious. There was an automated device to open the door. There were two rooms, a relatively comfortable room. It also had a staircase to the upper area, which would be an area escape. There was an entrance through the wall and a ladder at the top, an emergency exit”, he described.

“Ten were arrested inside the bunker. They were at the back of the building. You entered the NGO, passed by a gym. A place of typical NGO activities, and at the end there was a corridor. Following the corridor, turn right and behind work had been done. A false wall gave access to a room, where ten drug dealers were, with all the weapons”, explained the delegate Marcos Amim, according to a statement published by g1.

For the researchers, the bunker was built with the knowledge of those responsible for the NGO. “It was a large-scale work.
