Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) made a series of reports this Thursday (2) that link former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to a coup plan.

The proposal would have been made by former deputy Daniel Silveira during a meeting attended by Bolsonaro. Do Val was unable to specify when the meeting took place and gave different versions of its location — but he stated that it took place before the diplomacy of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), on December 12. Silveira was arrested on Thursday for failing to comply with precautionary measures.

According to the senator, the idea presented by the former deputy was to record a conversation with the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes and try to get something out of the magistrate that would compromise him and lead him to prison. This, according to the logic of the plan, would create institutional instability and could prevent Lula from taking office.

The revelations, which have become the subject of an investigation, are yet another factor adding to inquiries about Bolsonaro’s possible role in the January 8 coup attacks.
