Podcast: The CPI of the 8/1 after the first statement – Folha – 06/21/2023 – Podcasts

This Tuesday (20) the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on the 8th of January gave the formal start of the investigation work, after hearing its first deponent. Former Federal Highway Police director Silvinei Vasques denied that the corporation acted to harm Lula’s (PT) voters on the day of the second round of elections last year.

Vasques was summoned because of the suspicion that inspections by the PRF on October 30 were made to try to make it difficult for Lula voters to get to the polling places. He said that the corporation is the target of the “greatest injustice in history” and that his former position was never used to benefit former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

This Tuesday, the CPI also approved new summons, including that of the former head of the Institutional Security Office Gonçalves Dias and that of Army Colonel Jean Lawand Junior. The first session with testimonials was also marked by discussions; an argument between the rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), and deputy Eder Mauro (PL-PA) —who is not a member of the CPI— interrupted work for 15 minutes.
