Even on a trip to Barcelona, last week, the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, became a central issue in the government.
The politician is the target of a series of suspicions, revealed by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo. Already in office, he received government per diems for days without an official travel agenda — in one of them, he participated in horse auctions. Before becoming a minister, he allocated budget funds to pave a road that cuts through his farm and would have committed irregularities in the 2022 campaign, when he was elected federal deputy for Maranhão.
Juscelino Filho said that he returned the value of travel allowances and denies the other accusations. Over the weekend, he wrote on a social network that he is committed to clarifying the allegations he called unfounded.
He arrived at the Esplanada in the quota of União Brasil, a party that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) included in the formation of the government to try to form a parliamentary base and make his third term viable.
The suspicions about the head of Communications and cases involving the other two nominated by the party, however, have been making União Brasil a nuisance for the government. This Monday (6), Lula should have a meeting to define Juscelino’s situation.
In this episode of Café da Manhã, the columnist for Sheet Bruno Boghossian analyzes the impact of suspicions on those appointed by União Brasil to the government.
