Social networks are part of the daily life of young people since they were born, but is it because they are native to this form of communication that they have a healthy relationship with them? This is the reflection that the podcast Curti, so what? proposes to do with teenagers.

With a series of five episodes, the podcast, which premieres this Tuesday (21), gives voice to public and private school students from different regions and realities of the country to reflect on how they relate to the digital universe .

The podcast is an initiative of the VERO Institute, made up of researchers and digital communicators. The entity aims to protect democracy and build solutions to combat misinformation.

The program is conceived and presented by journalists Januária Alves and Laura Mattos, recognized in the field of education. And the episodes will be released fortnightly on the institute’s website.

“Our objective was to deal with the relationship of young people with social networks, based on the experiences they live in this medium. What we discovered in these discussions is that they want to reflect on their use. They are also bothered by the time they spend on the internet, too want to think about the consequences of this use”, says Laura, who is a reporter and columnist for Sheet.

The program is aimed at young people, but it is also a tool for educators to work on media education in schools. Among the topics addressed in the episodes are misinformation, fake news, cyberbullying and mental health, through everyday situations.

“Students told us, for example, about the existence of Instagram profiles for school gossip. In the discussion, they realized how these profiles often disseminate false information and with serious consequences for those involved. From this, they reflected on the reach of fake news”, explains Laura.

In addition to giving students a voice, the episodes feature influencers known to young audiences. Among those interviewed are, for example, Rapha Vicente, who became famous showing his content in the favela of Maré, in Rio, indigenous activist and communicator Samela Sateré Mawé and Eduardo Prado, runner-up in MasterChef, from Band.

Journalist Eliane Leme, who was responsible for recording and editing the podcast, says that more than 70 people were interviewed for the five episodes and more than 30 hours of testimonials were recorded, in various regions of Brazil.
