The transphobic speech by Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) in Congress, on the 8th, takes place at the same time that the Chamber has, for the first time, two trans deputies, Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) and Duda Salabert (PDT -MG). The offensive against this population, however, is not restricted to speeches like that of the Bolsonarist parliamentarian on International Women’s Day.
A survey of Sheet shows that at least 69 antitrans bills have been introduced since the beginning of this year at the federal, state and municipal levels.
Most of them seek to veto the use of neutral language in teaching and public administration. Others intend to bar people from sports competitions, or veto the installation of unisex or multi-gender restrooms in public and private establishments. Activists fear that more texts of this type will be presented after Nikolas Ferreira’s speech.
This Tuesday’s episode (21) of Café da Manhã discusses this offensive in politics. Reporter Dani Avelar, who carried out the survey, talks about the bills she identified, and Bruna Benevides, political articulation secretary at Antra (National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals), analyzes advances and setbacks in the rights of transgender people.
The audio program is published on Spotify, streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the application, just register for free.
Breakfast is published from Monday to Friday, always at the beginning of the day. The episode is presented by journalists Gabriela Mayer, Gustavo Simon and Magê Flores, with production by Laila Mouallem and Carolina Moraes and sound editing by Thomé Granemann.
