The presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), confirmed their favoritism and were re-elected for the command of the Houses this Wednesday (1st).

Lira, who had the support of a wide spectrum of parties, totaled 464 votes – a record since redemocratization – and easily defeated deputies Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) and Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS).

In the Senate, Bolsonaristas’ hope that former minister Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) could overcome Pacheco did not materialize. Supported by the Lula government, the PSD senator pushed back the challenge and won by 49 votes to 32, in a demonstration of the PT’s strength.
