First lady Rosângela Silva, Janja, said this Wednesday (8) that she is the target of more attacks on social media than President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva himself. In a speech on the Senate floor, she also said that she will be an “unconditional ally” in the fight against gender violence.
Janja was one of the honorees on International Women’s Day with the Bertha Lutz Diploma, given to people who work in defense of women’s rights. The first lady has positioned herself within the government as an “ambassador” of gender equality. In early March, she gathered the ministers for breakfast at the Planalto Palace and said that ending violence against women is one of Lula’s priorities.
The first lady was an important figure in the PT campaign and is now seeking a leading role in the government. It’s a different course from its last predecessors, who had a more discreet profile while they were in the role.
Janja should have her own office and, as part of that role, she should broadcast over the internet and lead agendas on trips across the country and abroad.
This Thursday’s Café da Manhã (9) discusses Janja’s performance in the Lula government and explains the historic role of the first ladies Journalist Ciça Guedes discusses how the wives of presidents were important for building their image. She is co-author of the book “All the Women of Presidents”. The episode also hears the reporter from Sheet Mariana Holland.
