Tests for a four-day work week begin on September 5th in Brazil. The pilot project will try to reduce working hours without reducing wages, a model that has already been evaluated in other countries.
There are 20 companies, with a total of 400 employees, officially participating in the project — another 400 have also signed up. The tests are a partnership between 4 Day Week, a non-profit organization that since 2019 has been evaluating new models of work and productivity, with Reconnect Happiness at Work, a partner in the project in Brazil.
Among the participants in Brazil are a hospital, consulting companies, food companies, publishers, video and content producers, communication agencies, an architecture office and another law firm.
In the UK, more than 9 out of 10 companies that have experimented with the shortened week say they will continue to use the model. In countries such as the United States and Ireland, the four-day work week without a reduction in pay has shown an increase in productivity and an improvement in employee well-being.
This Friday’s (1st) episode of Café da Manhã talks about the changes that brought the four-day work week to the debate, analyzes whether the model is viable in Brazil and discusses the impacts it may have. The podcast interviews the German journalist Sarah Heuberger, who experienced the shortened week, and the reporter from Sheet Fernanda Brigatti.
The audio program is published on Spotify, streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the application, just register for free.
Breakfast is published from Monday to Friday, always at the beginning of the day. The episode is presented by journalists Gabriela Mayer and Magê Flores, with production by Carolina Moraes, Laila Mouallem and Victor Lacombe. Sound editing is by Thomé Granemann.
