The Court of Sports Justice of Rio Grande do Sul (TJD-RS) concluded this Tuesday (31) the judgment of Jarro Pedroso for involvement in a betting scheme whose objective was to manipulate results of Brazilian football. The athlete from Inter de Santa Maria took a 720-day suspension and will have to pay a fine of R$ 100,000.
Originally, Pedroso’s trial was to take place last Monday, but his defense filed a postponement request. The request was accepted by the members of the TJD-RS, who in that same session defined the suspension of the same 720 days for Nikolas Farias, then a Novo Hamburgo player.
Confessed defendant, Pedroso would have agreed to receive a payment of R$ 30,000 – R$ 70,000 of which was promised to him first – for him to commit a penalty against Caxias at the time he was playing for São Luiz, in the Campeonato Gaúcho. He actually committed the penalty.
During the trial, Pedroso testified virtually, while his defense was supported by Cristiano Urach, a lawyer from an office hired by his current club, Inter de Santa Maria, from the second division of Rio Grande do Sul.
Paulo Cesar Girardi supported São Luiz as legal director of the Ijuí team and asked that the club not be responsible for paying the pecuniary penalty, but this was not granted. Thus, if the player does not pay the fine of R$ 100,000, it is the responsibility of São Luiz to settle it with the TJD-RS. Appeal is possible.
