Soccer player Marcos Vinicius Alves Barreira, better known as Romário, formerly of Vila Nova, was banned from soccer by decision of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). The news was confirmed on Thursday (22nd), after the player took part in a match-fixing scheme for football matches when he was defending Vila Nova.
The fine, previously imposed in the amount of BRL 25 thousand, was increased to BRL 80 thousand, in addition to the request for FIFA to accept the decision internationally.
Another player was also punished. Gabriel Domingos will remain suspended for 720 days and will have to pay a fine of R$80,000.
According to the court, the two participated in a match-fixing scheme in the game between Vila Nova and Sport for the 2022 edition of Série B of the Brazilian Championship, which was played on November 6.
