A small plane crashed this Saturday afternoon (16) in Barcelos, in the interior of Amazonas, and caused the death of 14 people. According to the Government of Amazonas, of the 14 people, 12 were passengers and two were crew. The plane, an Embraer EMB-110 “Bandeirante”, with capacity for up to 18 passengers, took off from Manaus bound for Barcelos, a city known for ecotourism.

The state governor, Wilson Lima (União), stated that the passengers were Brazilian tourists who practiced sport fishing, reported the g1 portal. “I deeply regret the death of the 12 passengers and two crew members, victims of the plane crash that occurred this Saturday, in Barcelos. Our teams are working from the outset to provide the necessary support. To family and friends, my solidarity and prayers”, said the governor in social media.

The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) reported that the aircraft was in “regular” condition. The causes of the accident are still being investigated and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has already been called to participate in the investigation. According to Civil Defense, it was raining heavily in the region at the time of the crash. The victims’ bodies will be taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) in Manaus for forensic examination.
