PL wants to strengthen party to “re-elect” Bolsonaro in 2026, says Valdemar

The president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, said this Thursday (22) that he does not believe in the possibility of impeachment of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and that the party is working to strengthen itself internally and increase the bench in Congress in 2026.

The statements were given in a video published on social networks in which the representative sends a “message to friends of the PL”. Valdemar says that the party will not “admit injustices” against Bolsonaro and that he will not be condemned “for what he said”.

“This does not exist anywhere in the world. Bolsonaro will remain firm and I am convinced that he will be our candidate ”, he said (see in full).

Valdemar stated that, for the party to win the 2026 presidential election and “re-elect” Bolsonaro, it is necessary to strengthen the party. The former president has already stated, when he returned to Brazil, that he will tour the country to promote PL actions and win mayoralties in municipal elections next year.

“We elected 99 federal deputies and, as much as each one is unique in their history, we all have a common goal, which is to re-elect Bolsonaro and enforce the values ​​of the right, because these are the goals that unite us. And so that we can win the elections in 2026, we need to internally strengthen the party”, he completed in the recording.

The TSE began judging this Thursday (22) the PDT action that accuses Bolsonaro of alleged abuse of political power by promoting a meeting with ambassadors, in July last year, on the Brazilian electoral system. The former president, however, did not attend the session and traveled to Porto Alegre to participate in an event promoted by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Fiergs).

Shortly before boarding, Bolsonaro said he considers it an “affront” if the TSE makes him ineligible. “I would like to remain 100% active in politics, and taking away political rights, which, in my opinion, is an affront, loses a little bit of that gas,” he said.
