Senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) and deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ) announced this Wednesday morning (19), during a press conference in the Senate, the forwarding of a request for impeachment of Minister Luiz Roberto Barroso, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), due to his statements of a political nature made during an event of the National Union of Students (UNE), last Wednesday (12), in Brasília.
The document that will be filed at the Secretariat of the Senate Board has the signatures of 13 senators and 70 opposition deputies and maintains that Barroso committed a crime of responsibility provided for by Law 1079/1950, by engaging in party-political activity. Therefore, the parliamentarians understand that the minister should be prevented from his function through a process to be opened by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).
The proof that the minister overdid his duties would be, according to the parliamentarians, in the phrase said in public at the UNE meeting: “We defeated censorship, we defeated torture, we defeated Bolsonarism to allow democracy and the free manifestation of all people”. The expectation of the authors of the request is that it can receive the signature of other congressmen.
