PL opposes project on parental participation in their children’s school life

A bill that provided for CLT working parents to be released from work for eight hours per semester to participate in pedagogical meetings about their children’s academic performance did not pass the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies. The opinion of deputy Diego Garcia (Republicanos-PR) was rejected by 24 to 21 (see below how each deputy voted), this Wednesday (25). While the PL opposed the project, PT parliamentarians voted in favor and took the opportunity to make pro-family speeches.

“When we decide to give workers eight more free hours, this means the company has to replace it and increase its costs. The moment it increases its costs, it reduces competitiveness and can even lay off people”, highlighted deputy Captain Alberto Neto (PL-AM).

“The impact and cost of this are very small compared to the benefits we will have”, stated Diego Garcia when defending the project, highlighting that the focus is on strengthening the family. “There is countless research that reinforces the importance of the family’s role in education. The gain for children is gigantic. The father, once alerted by the teacher in the classroom, will accompany his child”, highlighted Garcia.

During the session, deputy Patrus Ananias (PT-MG) said he supported this project, “which is very important as it seeks integration between school and family”.

The text had already been approved by the former Social Security and Family and Education Commission, leaving only the CCJ to go to the Federal Senate. With the rejection of the opinion, Captain Alberto Neto was designated the winning rapporteur and must present an opposing opinion to be assessed.
