Measure aims to guarantee the protection and preservation of the iconic space of the capital of Amazonas
Manaus (AM) – One of the most emblematic places in Manaus, Largo São Sebastião, must be declared a Historical and Cultural Heritage of Material Nature of the State of Amazonas, based on Bill No. 995/2023, authored by the president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) and federal deputy, Roberto Cidade (UB).
The measure aims to guarantee the protection and preservation of the iconic space of the capital of Amazonas, allowing its rich history and influence on local culture to be passed on to future generations. When declared as Historical and Cultural Heritage, any types of modifications and/or structural changes are limited.
“By officially making it a Historical and Cultural Heritage of Material Nature, we will be committed to ensuring that this place continues to play its vital role in promoting the culture, art and history of the State of Amazonas. Largo de São Sebastião is one of the most emblematic places in the city of Manaus. The history of this square is intertwined with the city’s own evolution, from its colonial origins to the present day,”
he stated.
