The Liberal Party (PL) barred the possibility of a separate candidacy for the presidency of the Chamber. The promise is to keep the agreement and support the re-election of the current president, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), but some party deputies supported the idea of launching federal deputy Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança (PL-SP) to the dispute.

However, the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, vetoed it. The representative of the acronym has had a position of respect for the different political positions of his bench in the Chamber, but he disallowed the idea of a separate candidacy. The goal is to keep the party cohesive, ensure the agreement signed with Lira and avoid possible reprisals from the mayor in a re-election.

A candidacy from Orleans and Bragança had the support of deputies who wanted to make a stand and express their opposition to the political articulations built by Lira, including with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The probable reappointment to the command of the Chamber has the support of PT and other parties of the left.

The internal information in the PL is that a separate candidacy could even lead to reprisals such as expulsion from the party. Federal deputy Bibo Nunes (PL-RS) confirms to People’s Gazette veto the candidacy of Orleans and Bragança. “It’s the president’s decision. [Valdemar]I leave it to him, who signed with Lira”, he says.
