The Central Bank reported this Wednesday (23) that police, prosecutors and other criminal prosecution authorities will be able to automatically consult, as of September 1, registration data, linked to Pix keys, of users under investigation.
The authorities will have access to information such as the user’s name, CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry) or CNPJ (National Corporate Taxpayer Registry) number, registered keys, relationship institution, branch and account number, type of account, date key creation and account opening.
Currently, the provision of this data is carried out in a non-automated manner, through individual treatment by BC servers.
In a note, the monetary authority said it assured that the novelty does not represent any kind of interference by the public authorities in the private information of Pix users and does not compromise the bank secrecy law.
“Pix transaction data, such as transfers, purchases and withdrawals, protected by bank secrecy, will not be covered by the functionality”, said Breno Lobo, consultant at the BC’s Department of Competition and Financial Market Structure.
With the new mechanism, BC hopes to facilitate the identification and eventual accountability of users who used Pix to commit crimes, helping to combat and prevent fraud and cyber crimes.
The announcement was made one day after BC reported that there was a leak of personal data linked to 238 Pix keys under the custody of Phi Pagamentos. This was the 5th episode of user data exposure since the implementation of the instant payment system.
