TV Globo journalist Delis Ortiz, attacked by Brazilian security agents during an impromptu press conference by the dictator Nicolás Maduro, attributed the attacks to the lack of organization of the event and to the Venezuelan’s requests for space restrictions to cover the meeting.

Maduro participated in the meeting between South American leaders, held at the Itamaraty Palace and promoted by President Lula (PT). The purpose of the meeting was to relaunch an integration mechanism in the region.

In an interview this Wednesday (31) with Globonews, Delis said she felt scared by the hostility of the security guards, especially the Brazilians, who she said were “unprepared for this type of event”.

“For example, the Itamaraty press committee, the Brazilian press was removed from the committee because there was a requirement from the Maduro team, who wanted a very private room for them. It was absurd, it was absurd after another, and the pivot of that everything, for sure, is Mature.”

The journalist detailed the aggression suffered, citing having taken an accidental blow to the neck of a security guard of the Venezuelan dictator and then an intentional punch in the chest delivered by a Brazilian agent, recruited by the GSI (Institutional Security Office).

“I was punched by a boy, who must be 18, 19 years old, who are recruited, they are in the military, and they are recruited by the GSI, absolutely unprepared for this type of event. They panicked and, along with That’s why they got into the rhythm of Maduro’s security guards,” the journalist reiterated.

In the end, he stated that the Brazilian press cannot accept this type of treatment. “It was scary, because I’m not out of my country, everyone knows us, knows what we were doing there”, concluded Delis.

The Venezuelan dictator was the last foreign leader to leave Itamaraty, on Tuesday night (30), after the meeting of South American leaders in Brasília, and he stopped to make statements to the press, when dozens of journalists approached to listen to him. it.

Upon leaving the scene, he continued to answer questions, when the assaults began.

At least three journalists reported assaults. In addition to Delis, reporter Sergio Roxo, from O Globo, was dragged by his clothes and then immobilized, and a third professional, Sofia Aguiar, from Agência Estado, said she was pushed by a security guard.

Shortly after the incident, Itamaraty regretted the episode. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets the incident in which there was aggression against press professionals, at the end of the meeting of presidents of South America. Steps will be taken to determine responsibilities.”

In a note, the Press Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic also repudiated the aggression. “All possible measures will be taken to ensure that this episode never happens again,” he said.

The attacks were repudiated by Abert (Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters).
