Defender Philipe Sampaio will remain hospitalized for additional tests. The Botafogo defender had to be substituted in the first half of the classic against Vasco after collapsing on his own and remaining unconscious for a few seconds. According to the club, the athlete is lucid, but will need to investigate the reasons for fainting.
“The athlete is lucid and stable, undergoing complementary exams. Sampaio had an episode of atraumatic syncope during the match and will remain hospitalized until tomorrow, respecting the protocol of clinical and cardiological exams. The medical team of the Club and hospital follow the athlete closely. Sampaio thanked everyone for their support”, says the note sent by Botafogo.
The episode involving the defender drew attention because it did not involve any shock, which would explain the fainting. Hence the need for more tests.
Without Sampaio and with two less (Adryelson and Rafael were expelled), Botafogo ended up defeated by 2-0 at Maracanã. With the result, it remains in second place in the Guanabara Cup, with 16 points, one less than Flamengo.
Vasco, on the other hand, won a classic again after nine consecutive defeats and entered the G4, with 14 points, taking fourth place from Volta Redonda.
