The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) denounced the indigenous José Acácio Serere Xavante to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for allegedly inciting protests against the diplomacy of then-elected president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) ), in December last year.

Xavante allegedly threatened members of the STF in an act in front of the National Congress and called on demonstrators to protest against Lula and Alckmin at Brasília International Airport and in front of the hotel where they were staying. The arrest of the indigenous man by order of the Court triggered a protest on December 12 in front of the headquarters of the Federal Police, in Brasília.

At the beginning of the year, after almost a month in prison, Xavante released a letter in which he apologized to Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, and denied that he had defended a “democratic rupture”.

The charge against Xavante was offered on the 19th and is confidential. His defense must present the allegations to Moraes within 15 days.
