PGR defends maintenance of Anderson Torres prison

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) manifested itself this Monday (27) by maintaining the preventive detention of the former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District, Anderson Torres. The opinion was forwarded to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). For the Attorney General’s Office, Torres was “aware” of the possibility of invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers.

The Attorney’s Office considered that there are “consistent indications” that show “missive conduct” by the former secretary. Therefore, the reasons for decreeing his preventive detention remain unshakable, based on the guarantee of public order, now strengthened with new evidence”, wrote the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Carlos Frederico Santos, who signed the document.

Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the preventive detention of Torres after the acts of vandalism on January 8 for alleged omission. He has been in prison since January 14, when he returned from the United States, where he was on vacation with his family. Earlier this month, the defense of the former Minister of Justice had requested the revocation of preventive detention. After the request, Moraes determined that the PGR opine on the request before deciding on the topic.

“On leaving the country, even though he was aware that the acts would take place on January 8, it is clear that Anderson Gustavo Torres deliberately left the command and coordination of the structures organically supervised by the portfolio he held, a factor that appears as preponderant for the tragic unfolding of the facts under discussion”, says the demonstration.

The PGR also cited in the opinion the draft found at Torres’ house, which suggested the establishment of a state of defense at the headquarters of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) after the 2022 elections. would be discarded and that it has no legal basis.

In the understanding of the PGR, “contrary to what the investigated [Torres] already tried to justify, it is not a document that would be thrown away, being, on the contrary, very well kept in a folder of the Federal government and together with other items of special singularity, such as family photos and religious image”.

“For all the above, the Federal Public Ministry, aiming to protect public order and criminal instruction (Article 312, CPP), requires the maintenance of the preventive detention of Anderson Gustavo Torres, former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District, without prejudice of a new evaluation how to proceed with the investigations”, stated Santos.
