Expertise on Mauro Cid’s cell phone identified documents with GLO and several contacts

Brasilia DF) – The expertise on the cell phone of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to Jair Bolsonaro (PL), identified exchanges of messages, audios and documents about coup-like actions with the aim of guaranteeing the ex-president’s permanence in the Planalto, despite the defeat in the 2022 elections.

The newspaper O Globo published, and Metrópoles confirmed with the top of the Federal Police (PF), that it was found, for example, the draft of a decree of Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO), military operation that allows only the president of the Republic to summon the Armed Forces in cases where the traditional forces of public security are exhausted. There are also, among the contents, attempts to establish the State of Defense.

The military’s telephone device was seized during an operation to investigate alleged insertion of false data in the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 vaccination systems. In the search and seizure warrants, evidence of money laundering was also found.

What weighs most against Mauro Cid

The PF concluded the expertise carried out on the cell phone that had been seized from Mauro Cid at the beginning of the month, and the content of messages and audios found on the device and in the cloud should yield new developments in the investigations. In a statement to the PF, Cid was silent about alleged plans by military personnel close to Bolsonaro to carry out a coup d’état and arrest the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes.

Experts found exchanges of messages between Mauro Cid and former Army major Ailton Gomes, who was a candidate for the PL for state deputy in Rio de Janeiro in 2022 and, during the campaign, presented himself as “Bolsonaro’s 01”.

According to the investigation, Ailton Gomes was willing to “incite groups of protesters to adhere to anti-democratic agendas in the interest of former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro, with strong indications that the said investigated person, in addition to being close to the former aide-de-camp Mauro Cid, would also have direct contact with the former president”.

Dated December 15, one of the audios shows Barros saying to Cid: “Here’s the thing: between today and tomorrow, Friday, you have to keep putting pressure on Freire Gomes [então comandante do Exército] for him to do what he has to do. By tomorrow afternoon, if he adheres, well, he makes a statement, then, positioning himself in this way, to defend the Brazilian people. And, if he does not adhere, it is Bolsonaro who has to make this pronouncement, to raise the morale of the troop. What did you see? It is shaken all over Brazil”.

The PF also found conversations between Mauro Cid and advisors who revealed guidance for paying the expenses of former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro in cash.

Finally, Cid is involved in attempts to recover the jewels sent by the rulers of Saudi Arabia to the Bolsonaro couple and which were withheld by the Federal Revenue Service.
