Brasilia DF) – The house of the governor removed from the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), was the target of a search and seizure carried out by the Federal Police this Friday by order of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), confirmed to Reuters one of his lawyers, Cleber Lopes, and statement released by the PF.

Ibaneis was removed from office for at least 90 days by order of STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes shortly after the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília on the 8th.

The local government and authorities of the public security forces are investigated on suspicion of having had a permissive role in preventing radical Bolsonarists from carrying out acts of vandalism.

In a note, the PF and the Attorney General’s Office said that the search and seizure against the removed governor involves his home and workplaces. They added that the interim secretary of Public Security of the DF on January 8, Fernando de Souza Oliveira, is also the subject of a warrant.

“The measures were authorized by the STF, based on requests from the PGR. The objective is to seek evidence to instruct the inquiry launched to investigate conduct by public authorities that would have failed in their obligation to prevent the violent acts recorded on that date in Brasília”,

said the statement.

According to the governor’s lawyer, the PF search and seizure of Ibaneis’ house in Lago Sul, an upscale neighborhood in the capital, was being monitored by lawyers from the defense team. The removed governor, said the defender, was not at the location during the police action.

“The defense is absolutely calm, there is nothing to hide. The search, although part of our legal model, is unnecessary and fruitless”,

said Lopes, adding that the governor has nothing to do with the facts or the violent action on January 8.
