PF can be triggered if networks do not delete posts advocating violence

The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino (PSB), demanded this Monday (10) more effective actions from social networks in the removal of content with apology to violence. Dino stated that he will gather determinations on the subject in a notification that will be delivered to the platforms later this week. “I made it clear at the meeting that if this notification is not heeded, we will take police and legal action against the platforms. Obviously, we do not want this,” he stressed.

During the meeting, the minister reinforced that it is imperative that companies comply with formal notifications. “I reiterate that our desire is for technology companies to help us. But if they do not respond to the notification, it is clear that they put themselves in a position, in which, in addition to taking care of the perpetrators, the perpetrators, those who are planning violence, we’re going to have to take care of them ourselves, which I hope isn’t necessary,” added Dino.

He met with representatives from Twitter, Google, YouTube, TikTok, Kwai and Meta (Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp). The minister charged social networks with “speed in fulfilling and responding to our requests when we identify profiles that are perpetrators or violators of the law, threatening or apologizing for violence against schools”.

He also asked the platforms “to strengthen the monitoring, that is, it is not enough at this moment for there to be a purely reactive or passive posture of these companies in relation to the requests that we are making”. In addition to the minister, the National Secretary for Public Security, Tadeu Alencar, MJSP’s Digital Law coordinator, Estela Aranha, and representatives of the Federal Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office also participated in the meeting.

“In the meetings with the platforms we were amazed, indignant, with what is circulating in them on an industrial scale. We are seeing panic being installed within schools and families and we have not yet identified the proportionality between the reaction of the platforms with the seriousness of this authentic epidemic of violence that threatens our schools right now,” said Dino.

According to the minister, the monitoring work will continue with great attention, especially until the 20th of this month, a date that was propagated as relevant in the threats, the ministry said in a note. However, monitoring does not have an end date.
