Former player Pelé left it in his will that he may have another heiress in addition to his widow, Márcia Aoki, six children and two grandchildren.

In September 2022, the Court of Justice of São Paulo issued a summons letter asking him to undergo a paternity test.

The action is filed by Maria do Socorro Azevedo, who is represented by the Public Defender’s Office. The process runs under secrecy of Justice in Itaquera (SP).

The king’s lawyers decided not to appeal the subpoena and said the DNA test is a natural part of a paternity suit. Pelé, however, did not get to take the test. He died in December last year, victim of cancer.

The king’s children were advised to submit to the test to confirm, or not, paternity. Resisting this would only delay the inventory solution.

BALANCE

The former star left a fortune not yet specified by the Justice, but already estimated at US$ 15 million. In addition to a house in Guarujá (SP), he had investments in commercial real estate and owned part of the rights to the “Pelé” brand.

SIGNATURE

This week, his widow, Márcia Aoki, hired PLKC Advogados to represent her in the king’s inventory. Márcia and the star got married in 2016. The former player was already 75 years old.

As the law obliges all people over 70 to marry under the mandatory separation of property regime, Márcia would not be entitled to the inheritance after her husband’s death.

Pelé, however, left a will, signed in 2020, allocating 30% of all his assets to her — and precisely specified his house in Guarujá as an asset that should stay with Márcia.

JUST RIGHT

The star player’s estate should still be divided between six children and the two grandchildren of his daughter Sandra, who died of cancer in 2006. Thus, the widow will be the main heir. Each of the others should keep about 10% of the total assets.

“Pelé, knowing that Márcia would not be his heir, insisted on protecting her. The will he left was a declaration of love for her”, says lawyer Luiz Kignel, from PLKC Advogados.

He also states that “there is no divergence between the heirs”, and that both the widow and children and grandchildren “seek a friendly composition to preserve Pelé’s memory”.

ORDER

Sons of the football king ask the Justice that the process in which they discuss the sharing of their father’s assets, in the 2nd Family and Succession Court of the Foro de Santos, be placed under secrecy. They allege that they are not public figures and that their privacy cannot be violated by the publication of reports.

A first request in this regard, however, has already been denied by judge Suzana Pereira da Silva. She claimed that the inventory is also of interest to other possible heirs and creditors. Former goalkeeper Edinho, Pelé’s son, asked to be the executor, but his request was also rejected. The court gave 15 days for the widow to comment on the possibility of her being the executor. Márcia has not yet decided whether she will take on the task.
