Before the ball rolls this Saturday for the Brazilian Super Cup, between Palmeiras and Flamengo, a beautiful tribute was prepared for King Pelé. Players and the daughters of the greatest idol of Brazilian sport participated in the series of thanks for everything that Pelé has given to football in the country on the lawn of the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the clubs paid tribute to Pelé, whose death completes one month this Sunday. When entering the field, players from Palmeiras and Flamengo wore shirts with the number 10, immortalized by the King of Football.
Then, the entity’s president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, Flávia and Kely Nascimento, daughters of Pelé, brought to the pitch three Jules Rimet cups, representing the third world championship that the King won with the Brazilian team.
The crowd reacted with applause, the athletes formed a corridor for the three to walk to the center of the lawn of the Mané Garrincha stadium. The daughters were thrilled and could not hold back their tears. The players positioned themselves in the central circle, while in the background, in the central stands, a large banner with a photo of Pelé and the infinity symbol appeared.
Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio only authorized the start of the game after a progressive count, up to 10, illustrated on the screen and in the official broadcast with ten images of Pelé.
