PDT will be Lula’s base, but remains divided in Ceará – 01/19/2023 – Panel

The majority of the PDT bench is in tune and should form the base of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government as of the inauguration of the new deputies, in February.
After the nomination of Carlos Lupi for the Ministry of Social Security, the party is negotiating nominations for the second echelon and pleading for federal positions that have greater capillarity.
The main knot to be untied is in Ceará, the electoral base of former minister Ciro Gomes (PDT), where the party is on the way to resuming its alliance with the PT of governor Elmano de Freitas.
The agreement encounters obstacles in the wing of the party led by former mayor Roberto Cláudio, a candidate for the government defeated in 2022. He defends that the party opposes the new governor.
Elmano appointed two state and one federal deputies from the PDT to his secretariat. State president of the PDT, federal deputy André Figueiredo informed that the party should decide on the Elmano government only in February, after the new deputies take office.
For federal deputy Mauro Filho, one of the names closest to the brothers Cid and Ciro Gomes, the alliance is sealed: “The bench is in tune, we will have three secretaries”.
PT and PDT broke a 16-year alliance in Ceará in July last year, when the pedetistas passed over governor Izolda Cela and chose former mayor of Fortaleza Roberto Cláudio as their candidate for governor.
The decision caused dissatisfaction in the PT, led by then governor Camilo Santana (PT). At the time, the party broke the alliance and launched Elmano de Freitas to the government.
