Social Security Minister Carlos Lupi says that the PDT, the party he presides over, does not support federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) for São Paulo City Hall in 2024.
PDT and PSB discuss with Solidarity the formation of a federation to strengthen the parties, threatened by the barrier clause.
The City Hall of São Paulo, however, has the potential to block the negotiations, given that the arrangement requires joint action by the parties in municipal elections. Tabata, who had a noisy departure from the PDT, is the PSB’s bet for the capital.
According to Lupi, his plan is to launch the candidacy of journalist José Luiz Datena, recently affiliated with the acronym. “If he keeps what he agreed with us, he will be the candidate”, he declares.
The minister will meet with the presidents of the PSB and Solidarity this Tuesday (14th) to address the matter. Next week, the topic will be discussed at the PDT Executive.
In 2019, Tabata Amaral asked the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to disaffiliate from Lupi’s party after a series of clashes with the summit and with former minister Ciro Gomes.
In the process, the deputy claimed to be suffering a “massacre” and “harsh repressions” by the national leadership of the PDT since she voted in favor of the pension reform, in July, contrary to the party’s orientation to reject the project.
