‘Passagem da Bandeira’ visits schools in Manaus in reference to the awarding of a sports title

Manaus (AM) – Manaus will receive, this Thursday (22), the award of the title “Manaus South American City of Sports 2024”, on Ponta Negra beach, West Zone of the capital of Amazonas. In reference to the event, students, managers and employees of the City of Manaus participated in the “Passagem da Bandeira” in seven educational units in all areas of the city. The program continues until Saturday (24).

On this occasion, Physical Education teachers explained the action carried out for the students, with the participation of educators and the school community in general, on the teaching unit’s court or in recreational spaces.

According to the head of the School Management Support Division (Dage), Luiz Oliveira, this visit to schools is a very important moment for children to recognize themselves as part of this important achievement for the Municipal Department of Education (Semed).

“Today is a very important day for education and sport. We went through the seven Zonal District Divisions (DDZs) for our children to experience this moment and understand how important this sports tool is along with education”,

adds Luiz.

The administrative director of the Manaus Sport Foundation (FME), João Carlos Janjão, commented that it was important to share this victory with the students. “This visit to schools was sensational, this contact with children and young people is important for them to understand that they are also part of this. It’s a title that Manaus deserved and it’s for all of us Manaus”, he added.

Approximately 150 students from the 6th to the 8th year of elementary school, from the municipal school Eliana Lúcia Monteiro, located in the Santo Agostinho neighborhood, West Zone, participated in the program. For director Patrícia Augusta da Silva Santana, participating in this special moment is a way of valuing the school’s work with sports students.

“It is a recognition that the school gains due to the fact that we highly value physical education, and also due to the fact that we have a structure that provides this modality for students. We have responsible and competent physical education teachers, who teach the importance of practicing sport for not only physical, but also intellectual and human development for our students. This is actually a recognition that the school gives to students about the importance of awarding our city as the South American capital of sport”,

Black belt in taekwondo, student Maria Luiza dos Santos watched the program and was very happy that the school was chosen within the itinerary, as it is a way to further motivate students to practice any type of sport.

“It is a very important moment for the school to gain this recognition, both for the teachers, the principal and the students. As a student, I was very happy to have participated, because I felt recognized. I practice taekwondo, it is important for masters and students of the sport. For our school, this program is good, because there are students who want to be football players, volleyball players, fighters, in short, this really helps to encourage sports practice”, she concluded.
