Paranaense wins gold medal as best cook at Senac Nacional

Senac PR won a gold medal in the Kitchen category at the National Stage of the Senac Professional Education Competitions. The victory was led by Paulo Bedin, Gastronomy technologist from Faculdade Senac Maringá. In the Restaurant Service occupation, the institution from Paraná took the bronze medal with competitor Larissa Szandela. The competition took place between the 22nd and 27th of October in Vitória (ES).
In addition to these two occupations, Senac PR also participated in three others: Health Care – in which it also won gold with Estefany Marengoni –, Hairdressing and Social Support. And he still got first place overall in the competition. In total, 22 states and 61 competitors participated in the program.
With three modules made up of starters, plus a main course and dessert, the cook from Jandaia do Sul won over the competition’s judges. “We trained in search of gold, but it was a surprise to have won it”, celebrates Kaio Trevizan, coach and evaluator. “It was hard work and as a team, there were many hands involved in this process,” he explains.
For the main course, Beni used technique and creativity to prepare a shrimp farce stuffed with sautéed shrimp and aspec, accompanied by fondant chayote, chayote fagotini, mustard pickles, caramelized onion canolle, seasoned polenta and pumpkin puree, more sautéed shrimp and lemon hollandaise sauce.
Larissa celebrated the bronze as if she had won the gold medal. “We knew it was going to be difficult, but standing on the podium is an incredible emotion,” she reveals. She was trained by Ueslei Felipe de Oliveira.
Next stop: Lyon
With their achievements, Bedin and Larissa will represent Brazil next year at WorldSkills, in Lyon, France. The world’s largest professional education competition takes place every two years and, in the 2024 edition, it should bring together around a thousand students from different countries. There will be more than 60 professional occupations represented.
In a period of well-deserved rest, the medalists return to training from the second half of November, accompanied by national experts from their respective occupations, to prepare for the competition in Lyon.
