Paralympic Festival brings together more than 300 children, young people and adults in sports activities

Manaus (AM) – Seeking to present Paralympic sports to people with and without disabilities and to show the importance of these sports, the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), in partnership with the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy (Feff), of the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) and the Secretariat of Education and School Sports held the “Paralympic Festival” at Feff sports courts. The activities also marked the closing of the 1st School Paralympics of Amazonas (PARAJEA’s).

The “Paralympic Festival” is an event that takes place in all states of Brazil, with more than 190 centers carrying out these activities. In Manaus, more than 300 children and young people are enrolled in the Paralympic centers. The festival was held so that PCD children and non-disabled children could have fun together. Paralympic athletes from the state education network who participated in the Amazon selective at PARAJEA’S were also present.

The festival’s coordinator, Keegan Bezerra Ponce, spoke about this union, the practice of sports together and the importance of the event in changing the view of people with disabilities.

“Children and adults participated in various activities where Paralympic sport is the flagship. In all activities, the disabled child interacted with the non-disabled child, so that, in this way, this child can grow up with the idea that disability is not something disabling or that it brings a disadvantage, on the contrary”, said the coordinator.

The coordinator of Physical Education, from the Secretary of State for Education and School Sports, Joniferson Vieira accompanied the para-athletes at the festival. He explained the importance of events like this, mainly, for school Paralympic sports.

“The festival is a way of giving strength to this agreement that is being discussed between the Department of Education and the university. We believe that this agreement will provide the scientific knowledge that we need to deal with Paralympic sports in the state of Amazonas and, mainly, with school Paralympic sports, which is our focus, our students”, said the coordinator.

Partnerships
Athletics, badminton, sitting volleyball, table tennis, among many other sports were practiced by the participants. The festival had volunteers from the university itself and from Feff.

Feff’s director, João Libardoni, spoke about the college’s partnership with the Paralympic Committee, the collaboration of sports practices and the responsibility of hosting events with the festival.

“Since 2021, we are united with the Committee to develop the Paralympic Reference Center and, this center, has the responsibility of hosting the Paralympic Festival, it is here with a possibility of practice. We offer athletics, swimming, bowls, among others, and the festival is a way for people to experience sports at the Reference Center”, said the director.
