The Amapá Wanna Brito, 27 years old, set a new world record on the first morning of competition in the opening stage of the Loterias Caixa Athletics Circuit, this Saturday (16), at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo (SP).
In the F32 class shot put, Wanna, who defends the FPA (AP), reached 7m85, thus establishing the new world record for the event in this class, which is exclusive to athletes with high-grade movement disorders in the entire torso and in both arms and legs.
Wanna’s result in the shot put exceeds the old world record, which was held by the Russian, by two centimeters Evgueniia Galaktionova, and was registered in competition in the city of Cheboksary, also in Russia, in August 2023; on that occasion, the athlete threw for 7m83.
“I’m working hard to make this happen, I’m very happy, this record is very important for me and for those who work with me. But I’m sure I can do more. I always dreamed very big, I always believed that I could go far, that I could get here and achieve this [recorde mundial]and I worked hard for this dream, which was always very high, to make it all come true”celebrated Wanna, who until then had 7m66 as her best mark in the race.
The marks achieved in the competition are valid for obtaining a place in the World Athletics Championships, in May, in the Japanese city of Kobe.
The competition brings together 359 athletes from all regions of the country – as well as Mexico and Argentina – and is organized by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and sponsored by Loterias Caixa. It is one of the most important national Paralympic events in athletics, swimming and weightlifting. Its objective is to develop sporting practices in the country, in addition to improving the technical level of the modalities.
